SVYC STARTING LINES

There are two Club starting lines.  The starting line to be used will be indicated by an orange or green board placed at the beginning of the course displayed.

The Orange starting line is the extension of a line formed by bringing the SVYC flagstaff in line with an orange and white vertical marker board on the wall of the SVYC building. The outer limit mark of this line is the Line Post (L) which is on this line. The inner limit mark of this starting line is the orange dan buoy (IDM1), unless signalled otherwise by code flag E no later than the warning signal.

The Green starting line is the extension of a line formed by bringing the SVYC flagstaff in line with a green and white vertical marker board on the wall of the SVYC building.  The outer limit mark of this line is Boom buoy (blue spherical with a white band - 15). The inner limit mark of this line is the green dan buoy (IDM2), unless signalled otherwise by code flag E no later than the warning signal.

If a limit mark of the starting line as defined above is a floating buoy and it is lying on the pre-start side of the starting line, boats when starting shall leave on the required side both the limit mark and the point on the starting line nearest to the limit mark.

On the Orange and Green lines the transit lights are momentarily obscured by the SVYC flagstaff at the appropriate point of transit.

SVYC FINISHING LINE

Races with a black L shown as the last mark of the course will finish on the Club finishing line unless the course is subsequently shortened to finish at a mark of the course.

The Club finishing line is between the Line Post (L) and the SVYC flagstaff.  The outer limit mark of this line is the Line Post (L). For boats with fixed keels the inner limit mark of this finishing line is the point on the finishing line nearest to the orange dan buoy (IDM1); when finishing, such boats shall leave on the required side both the point on the finishing line nearest to IDM1 and the IDM1 buoy itself. There is no inner limit mark for other classes. Boats required to pass through the finishing line on completion of each round of a race must do so between the limit marks as defined in this SI.

In a race where a lap finishes through the Club Finishing Line as indicated by a black L, a shortened course will be signalled by displaying Flag S from ashore in accordance with RRS 32.2(b).
